This vintage silver gelatin postcard is titled in the negative. Dated in ink beneath the title, "July 22, 1937". Edward Weston and his wife Charis arrived in Yosemite on July 20th, 1937 as part of their Guggenheim Fellowship. After a trip through the high country with Ansel Adams, they returned to Adams' home only to find his darkroom on fire a few hours later. An assistant had left a volatile substance next to the mounting press, setting off the fire. Many of Adams' early negatives were lost or damaged in the fire, likely including this image, which was reproduced in books on Adams' imagery from 1934 and 1935.
