The portfolio in which this print was included was acquired directly from Anne Adams-Helms, Ansel's daughter, and bears her collection stamp mount verso.
Portfolio One was produced by Ansel Adams in 1948, drawing from images made after Stieglitz's death in 1946, with the exception of Stieglitz's portrait from 1938. Dedicated to the legendary Alfred Stieglitz, the father of modern photography, the images in this portfolio exemplify the light and contemplative quietude of Stieglitz's later imagery. This portfolio contains twelve silver gelatin prints, made in an edition of 75, of which this is number 33. Also contained in the portfolio case is a colophon with title page, introduction, print list and technical details in typeset; signed and numbered in red crayon by Ansel Adams in the colophon.
