This rare original print is one of two known examples, with the other residing in the Huntington Library. Occasionally, when Edward was away or otherwise unable to respond to exhibition requests, Brett would mount/and or sign an original by Edward on his behalf. Such is the case with this example, where Brett has initialed the front of the mount “EW 1940” and written on the back “Print by Edward Weston” followed by his signature. Another indication of this practice comes from a Hamburg Airport stamp on the reverse of the mount—a stamp that was used in the late 1940’s. Thus, it is likely that this print was made by Edward soon after the negative date, but later mounted by Brett to send to a show at the Stedelijk van Abbe Museum in the Netherlands.
