This varnished, semi-matte vintage silver gelatin contact print from a 5x7 negative harkens back to Strand’s early days at the forefront of Modernism—tilting his camera in inventive ways to isolate forms from the reality that bears them. This particular example is very rare—it is the only known contact print of the image that the Gallery has located at this time, having originally come from the Paul Strand archive in the early 1990’s. This print is unmounted, trimmed, and unsigned—conventional characteristics for Strand prints. An Etherton Gallery label and provenance backing board verso.
