This selenium-toned silver gelatin print was hand-crafted by Bob Kolbrener in his darkroom. Kolbrener has mounted and matted the print with Museum Board to 14x17", signed in pencil recto, stamped and titled in ink verso. Inspired by Ansel Adams' aim to make his imagery more accessible, Kolbrener has selected a small group of his greatest images to print from 8x10" copy negatives under a Special Edition. Larger prints, measuring 16x20" and up, are still available for purchase by inquiry.
Bob Kolbrener (b. 1942) has been photographing the American West for over half a century using traditional film and paper techniques. Kolbrener started his fine art career as a student of Ansel Adams, but soon became an assistant in Adams' Yosemite workshops throughout the 1970s. For over 50 years, Bob and his wife Sharon made biannual month-long trips traversing deserts, mountains, coasts and plains to record the varied moods of Western landscapes.
